Wrocław, Poland

The painting was created in the studio connected with the activity of the Master of the Wrocław Polyptych of St Barbara (Wilhelm Kalteysen von Oche). The Madonna with Child seated inside a chamber, is depicted as a queen assisted by two angels. The elements of the furnishings are in the style of bourgeois Realism seen in the paintings from the Netherlands and the Upper Rhine. Its symbolism points to the purity, virginity and learnedness of the Mother of God. One can also notice the unnatural perspective applied in the painting, which distorts the interior of the room.
