The author of the golden medal is the sculptor and medalist Josef Šejnost. The medal was created for the 1000th anniversary of the death of St. Wenceslas, so the Czech patron is depicted on the front of the medal. A great celebration was held in 1929 for this special occasion, and one of the events was the opening of the St. Vitus cathedral at the Prague Castle. This event is depicted of the back side of the medal.
