The Nativity of the Virgin

The most laconic iconographic version with minimum of characters was chosen for this fresco. In the center of the composition there is a bed with birthing mother. Three women congratulate Anna and bring her presents. In the lower part, near the bed there are two midwives, bathing a baby – Mary. The scene combines the naturalness of genre scene and ritual iconography of Byzantine art.
