The southwest portion of Urakami Church (the present Urakami Cathedral) seen from the western part of Motoo-machi (the present Heiwa-machi). The grand Romanesque-style brick and stone building was shattered by the ferocious blast, and the two priests and more than 20 churchgoers who had been in the building at the time perished. The houses in the neighborhood had also been completely destroyed, but makeshift shacks were beginning to appear at the time of this photograph.
