The original competition design for the Albert Memorial Museum

John Hayward (1807-1891) was successful in his bid to be the architect of the proposed museum when he submitted this design in 1862. Based in Exeter, Hayward was an architect of the Gothic Revival, a style that took inspiration from medieval architecture and was especially popular in the 19th century.
