St. Matthias Grammar School operated within the walls of this building until 1945. During Festung Breslau, the edifice was damaged. In the first weeks after World War II, it was occupied by the nascent University of Wrocław. The building was then handed over to the reactivated Ossolineum Library in July 1946.
