The Parting Discourse, performance

Referencing strategies of disenchantment
and disillusionment of the theatrical
tradition, Panayiotou has used the folded
theatrical backdrop since 2007 as an ongoing
motif. This theater backdrop was created
for a performance entitled The Parting
Discourse, which took place at Teatro
Goldoni in Venice on May 6, 2015. It formed
the scenic element of the performance,
depicting a horizon. It appeared on stage,
descending slowly on the flying rig, until
collapsing onto itself, before being folded
once and for all, to be carried from the
theater to Palazzo Malipiero. Here, as a
concealed image, it is laid to rest.
