The Pentagon, home of the Department of Defense, is located in Arlington, Virginia, just across the river from Washington, D.C. On 11 September 2001, American Airlines Flight 77 flew into the west wall of the building's first floor, setting off a chain of events. A total of 125 individuals inside the Pentagon - most of whom were Army and Navy service members and employees - along with the 64 individual's onboard the Boeing 757, perished.
