Jorge Barbosa de Montenegro was born in Lisbon, Portugal, the 12th June 1961.He began his piano studies with his grandmother who have been student of the eminent Portuguese pianist-composer Óscar da Silva, who studied with Clara Schumann in Weimar. In 1984 he graduated in Piano Performance with the highest rating at the “Conservatório de Música do Porto”. He awarded the first prizes at the Juventude Musical Portuguesa and Cidade da Covilhã Piano Competitions and the prize for the best student of the Conservatório de Música do Porto in 1984. In 1993 the Arizona Board of Regents confered him the degree of “Master of Music” being invited to be a member of the “National Honor Music Society “ (U.S.A.). In 2009 he worked the 24 Études of Chopin with Rebecca Penneys, a prize winner at the Frederic Chopin Piano Competition and a former student of Rosina Lhévinne and Arthur Rubistein. As a Professor of Piano and Piano as a Second Instrument he presented the Ray Gottlieb method “ Attention & Memory Training, Stresspoint Learning on The Trampoline” at the “Conservatório de Música do Porto”.
