The Pilot Model ACE (3)

The Pilot Model ACE was one of the earliest general purpose digital automatic electronic stored-program computers. In March 1946, renowned British cryptologist/computer scientist/mathematician Alan Turing presented a proposal to the National Physical Laboratory containing a highly detailed design for the construction of an Automatic Computing Engine (ACE). It was decided that a smaller ‘pilot’ version of the machine should be constructed, provoking Turing to leave the project. Harry Huskey, Jim Wilkinson and Donald Davies were critical members of the construction team for the Pilot Model ACE.
