The Proclamation of Queensland

This original proclamation was publicly read by Sir George Ferguson Bowen’s acting private secretary, Abram Moriarty, at Government House in Adelaide Street, officially announcing Queensland as a separate colony from New South Wales. It was co-signed by Sir Robert Herbert, Bowen’s Colonial Secretary, who became the first Premier of Queensland in 1860.
