The Black Lions Inn in Exeter is said to have incorporated the remains of a house belonging to Plympton Priory, which owned land in Exeter. The Inn was severely damaged by a fire in 1873, which revealed medieval masonry. It was rebuilt but suffered a similar fate when it was again destroyed by fire following an air raid on 4 May 1942.
