The crowded, noisy space of a livestock market has been synthesized into four people and an animal, reaffirming the artist’s interest in the different aspects of rural culture. The two couples of humans divide the scene on both sides of the animal. The background scene shows us a consolatory hug that the male figure offers to the female most probably heartbroken for the loss of the cow, in the foreground we see a handshake between two people that seems to put an end to an economical transition. The two farmers’ clothes are quite interesting as well, one of them is wrapped in an almost brigand-like tabard, the other one wearing a hooded cloak, common among the famers of every part of the world.
