On 4 December Ida Uhse writes in her travel diary: “The morning offered a tour riding a donkey, the evening a trip to the pyramids at Giza with the Mena House Hotel. We admired the pyramids in the moonlight, it was a magnificent sight in the deep tranquillity surrounding us. It was impressive to find these monuments after many centuries. The sphinx is covered by sand and you can only see a little bit of one paw.”
