The Tei Lake

The trunks and bare branches of willows and birches become a natural transparent curtain in front of the quiet lake. The leaves have completely disappeared and the landscape announces the approach of winter. The clear contours of the young trees in the foreground indicate the artist Cecilia Cuțescu-Storck's aptitude for drawing and the tendency towards decorativeness. The composition seems to continue beyond the paper, thus foreshadowing his later murals.
