The latest news and stories told from mouth to mouth found their place in one of the most popular and successful 16th-century publications, the “Cosmography” of Sebastian Münster (1488-1552), a German cartographer and cosmographer. In a short chapter on the invention of the press, the author states that the press was invented in 1440-1450; he mentions Johannes Gutenberg as the pioneer and inventor of the press.
