In the year 1894, workers happened upon a large clay vessel while digging for stones in Kronshagen, near Kiel. The vessel was upon a block of stone, buried in the ground at a depth of 75 cm. It contained valuable bronze objects, amongst which were parts of a female costume and tools. They were partly damaged during retrieval and the clay vessel was shattered and discarded. Through comparisons with other grave finds, it became clear that these objects of jewellery were worn as necklaces and bracelets, whereas the function of the large bronze bowls is still unknown. The bronze objects were of extremely high quality; their decorations show the far-reaching cultural relations of the Nordic Bronze Age.
