"Trenodìa" (Threnody) is the great funeral procession that in ten days united the regions of Calabria, Campania and Basilicata in a choral lamentation directed by Mariangela and Vinicio Capossela, with the contribution of artists from the world of art, singing, dance and theatre.

An ancient tradition of the thrênos, which not only proves to be topical, but also as necessary in contemporary society, strongly individualistic and reluctant to the idea of suffering as a natural condition of the human soul. For these reasons, the citizens who participated in public calls wore black clothes, since this is the color of mourning and fertility at the same time. The seed germinates under the earth, life is born in the darkness and protected in the womb until it is ready to emerge, to come to light. Clutching and joining in a single body, the participants experienced a deep catharsis , through repeated gestures and choirs, where the fatigue and pain of their neighbor was also their own.

The last of the fires, held in Matera, ended with a concert by Vinicio Capossela at the Cava del Sole. The bodies and voices that previously had animated the procession in a sad way, were released and exploded into a frantic and vital rhythm, confirming that death is not an enemy to be driven away, but a companion with whom to dance and live every single day of our life.
