Casa Buonarroti
Firenze, Italy

The painting, acccompanied by the Latin inscription that illustrates the episode, shows the moment in which the Turkish Sultan sent a delegation to Michelangelo to request him to come to Costantinopoli to handle some works. Michelangelo is depicted in the foreground with a cloak fur lined and is flanked by other characters, several identifiable thanks to the 1684’s inventory: the turkish man in the foreground it would be Niccolò Arrichetti academic, philosopher and mathematician; on the estreme right is depicted Francesco, Michelangelo’s the Younger brother; meanwhile the young man on the left is Leonardo di Pietro Barducci, Michelangelo’s the young cousin.
