Video taken by the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office after the Vanport Flood of May 30, 1948 in Vanport City, Oregon, formerly located between Portland, Oregon and the Columbia River. Vanport was home to many of the workers that came to Portland during WWII to aid the war effort, and it was the center of the African American community in Portland from WWII until the time of the flood.
This color video shows the flood waters and damaged homes and other buildings, including the Pacific Coast International Livestock Building, Jantzen Beach Amusement Park, Columbia Edgewater Country Club and Portland Yacht Club. No audio.
