The Vienna City Temple, based on a design by Joseph Kornhäusel and the plan submitted in 1823

After having overcome numerous bureaucratic hurdles, the City Temple in Seitenstettengasse finally opened in 1826. Behind the five-story Classicist façade was not only a synagogue but also offices, a Jewish school, an old people’s home, and a ritual bath. It was designed by Joseph Kornhäusel, one of the most important representatives of Classicism in Austria. The model is based on a virtual reconstruction: artuum architecture, Herbert Peter, Katharina Wolf / Modellart, Michael Eisenkölbl, Danijel Vonic
