The view of St. Benedict's Cloister

1508/1512

Complesso di San Giovanni Evangelista

Complesso di San Giovanni Evangelista
Parma, Italy

The third cloister, known as Cloister of St. Benedict, leads to the refectory. It is the largest cloister and it dates back to 1508-1512. The portico has thirty columns and between each of them there is a rod with the figure of a saint; in total the rods are 26. A great part of the work by Giovanni Battista Merano and Tommaso Aldovrandini (from 1682 to 1687) has been deleted by the bad weather.
