An extract from poet Sarah Jane Rees' (pseudonym, Cranogwen) compilation of works, 'Caniadau Cranogwen'. This particular poem, 'The Wedding Ring', or 'Y Fodrwy Briodasol' in Welsh, ignited her career in the poetic field, winning her the bardic title at the 1865 National Eisteddfod at Aberystwyth, thus besting the leading bards of the day.

Rees had a varied and compelling life. In addition to her recognition as an established poet, she also spent time as a mariner, teacher, public speaker, editor, and activist.
