With many male farmers and laborers serving in World War I, the U.S. faced a critical shortage of agricultural workers. This poster promoted the Woman’s Land Army of America (WLAA), a civilian effort that trained women—nicknamed "farmerettes"—to take on agricultural jobs and prevent food shortages.
Backed by patriotic imagery, the poster emphasizes both civic duty and the strength of women stepping into traditionally male roles. These women planted, harvested, and tended crops across the country, helping to “fight the food famine” and keep the nation—and its allies—fed during wartime.
