The Zoopraxiscope

The Zoopraxiscope and a disc.
Zoopraxiscope means ‘life-action-view’ in Greek. It is the first motion picture projector which demonstrated the movement of animals and humans, by adapting photographs taken from real life motion. When a glass disc with the traced images of moving subjects spun in the projector, a moving picture was projected onto a screen. The Zoopraxiscope was originally made for 16-inch discs, but modified for 12-inch discs in 1893.
Muybridge used the Zoopraxiscope during his lectures in the 1880s and 90s.
