This is considered to be a depiction of the rare phenomenon on exceptionally clear early mornings from summer to fall in which the surface of Mount Fuji, flooded with the morning sun, is dyed red. It is colloquially known by the nickname “Aka Fuji" (Red Fuji). Mount Fuji demonstrates complex and rich expression in this work through the beautiful gradation printing, which transitions from brown to red, and the grain of the woodblock that faintly emerges. It is a masterpiece that captures the beautiful and even solemn form of Mount Fuji emerging in the morning sun.
