“This Way Brouwn” is a continuation of the performative series initiated by Stanley Brouwn in the 1960s under the same title. Concentrating his artistic practice on the act of setting a course, counting steps, covering distances and leaving traces, Brouwn asked strangers he encountered on the street the route he could take from a point A to B, and requested them to draw on a piece of paper the itinerary they described. The photographs accompanying these papers document the individual paths the artist follows in accordance with the instructions given by others, along with the objective viewpoint of the camera.

"Words Are Very Unnecessary", exhibition view, Arter, 2019.
