Thornbury Castle is considered to be one of the country's finest Tudor houses. It was built between 1511 and 1521 for the Duke of Buckingham and was extensively restored in the 19th century. The neighbouring Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin dates from the 12th century and includes a tower built in circa 1540.
