Renaissance and Reformation. German Art in the Age of Dürer and Cranach
Since the late sixteenth century, exquisite tableware has been made in Freiburg and Waldkirch im Breisgau. The preferred material was rock crystal from the St. Gotthard region of Switzerland. Small, artfully polished, vertically bored pieces were “lined up” on a metal rod, which then formed a spoon, fork, or knife handle. The settings were primarily manufactured in southern Germany.
