Thymiaterium

This bronze thymiaterium is an artefact intended for a ritual use in ceremonies. It is used to burn incense and fragrance substances. For this reason they have a bowl in which to place the embers and aromatic substances.

Together with this piece, from the tumulus of Higuerones (Cástulo), a fragment of the lid it was documented. This lid have a bull on top, and it is perforated by triangles to allow escape the smoke. The bull works as a handle, and this allows the output of smoke from his mouth because it is hollow inside. Also this thymiaterium has a zoomorphic decoration on the edge of the bowl with the representation of two deer and a lioness, and an inverted lotus flower on the stem.

This element was part of a ritual set, with the winged sphinx documented in the same tumulus.
