  • Long Description: The tibia (commonly called ‘double pipe’) was a wind instrument made up of two tubes which were excited by double reeds and were played simultaneously by one musician. "The tibia, which has its origin in ancient Greek aulos, was believed to possess magical power; its music pursuing the evil spirits and calling the good ones. In 1988 the archaelogists unearthed remnants recognised as fragments of a tibia (2nd - 3rd century AD) on the site of a house of a rich Poetovian (Roman Poetovio, today's Ptuj, Slovenia). In Europe, finds of instruments from antiquity are exeptionally rare." (dr. Darja Koter)
