Jean-François Champollion is famous today for his decipherment of the Egyptian hieroglyphic script in 1822. Unfortunately, Champollion suffered a premature death in 1832 at the age of 41. Most of his work on an Egyptian grammar and dictionary was nearly complete. These were brought together and published posthumously by his brother.
