When COVID-19 forced everyone into their homes, two people risked their own health to make sure that Becky Beamer didn’t go through major surgery alone: the caregivers. The cover of the book is made from the surgical gown worn during my stay at the American Hospital in Dubai (March 30 - April 1), dyed with coffee grounds. Executed in a link-stitch binding and handmade paper, To Caregivers was gifted to her caregivers. Completed on 15 July 2020, the edition 1 of 2 includes a personal notation: “A secret memory is hidden in the pages. I hope to share many more. Thank you for being there for me when I felt so alone. (heart) me.” The secret memory is a printed analogue photograph from Italy. The pages are empty in anticipation of writing by the caregiver – a place to remember the treasured times together and document future experiences.
