Gail Hastings makes work which she describes as ’sculptuation’; a combination of sculpture and situation. Her work is a conversation about space and objects and about the ideas that arise through their interaction and in different situations. She is most concerned with the twentieth-century understanding of minimalism, but transformed into a contemporary idea that explores the language of space and materials, and involves the active participation of the viewer.
To make a work of timeless art includes watercolours, wall painting and a number of large three-dimensional objects. The space created – the sculptuation – is between the watercolour floor plan and the actual objects within the room one stands.
