In 1998, the National Park Service, Midwest Regional Office entered into an agreement with the Trail of Tears Association to plan and develop an audio-visual program for the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail at the Fort Smith National Historic Site in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Interviewees were selected from members of the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee Creek, Seminole, and Osage tribes. The interviews were recorded onto VHS tapes and edited by National Park Service employees with the input of tribal subject matter experts. These pages are from the transcript of the oral history given by Ida Sue Gray, a member of the Cherokee Nation.
