The largest species of the genus Troides in the family Papilionidae endemic to Sulawesi and its adjacent islands. The wingspan of a female Troides hypolitus can reach 21.5cm. When flying, the yellow spots on rear wings shining in the golden sunshine, which look luxurious and beautiful. The larvae are hosted by a variety of Aristolochia spp. plants and feed on the leaves of Aristolochia plants. Adult insects like gliding and fly slowly. The butterfly species can breed more than two generations per year. It is listed in Class II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
