Trunk

Louis Vuitton was as much a luxury name in the 19th century as it is today, providing well-to-do travelers with elegant cases for their expensive wardrobes. Founded in 1854, the company pioneered the design of the flat-topped trunk—rather than domed—which changed the way trunks were handled and stacked. The Fricks traveled a great deal, often on ocean liners to Europe, and this is one of many trunks that they owned. Archival receipts for repairs show that the Fricks spent considerable time and effort maintaining their travel trunks.
