This ballot box interactive in "The 19th Amendment" exhibit features the stories of women who tried to vote during the Reconstruction era. From 1868 to 1875, hundreds of women across the country went to the polls on Election Day. Depending on factors such as their location, some women successfully voted, while others were turned away or arrested. Some women even took their case to court.
