Trying to Kiss my Ass, You Must Die is a work by the American painter Peter Saul (San Francisco, United States, 1934), one of the fathers of the Pop Art movement. With his trademark mix of bold colours, acid humour and a blatant lack of political correctness, Saul is the eternal outsider, the social satirist always searching for a fresh and compelling new image. Influenced by the Abstract Expressionists but averse to existential philosophy, Saul embraced their brushstroke but stripped-down painting technique. Saul tackles themes like consumerism, war and hate through provocative imagery in which good and evil are fictional absolutes.
