Turban Cloth Piece, Cotton

Headgear was important throughout India, especially among men, where it denoted status, caste, age and other affliations. It took a range of fabrics and forms, from simple soft single toned caps moulded to the shape of wearer's head to elaborate hats made of metal threads and bejewelled head covering made of lustrous silk. This turban piece has an elaborate lehariya (striped) pattern block printed with alternating rows of single flowered creepers in bands of purple, yellow and mustard colour.
