Anisa Sharif is a Melbourne based artist specialising in glass mosaic. Anisa draws inspiration from a range of traditional sources, in Indian, Moroccan and Persian crafts to Art Nouveu designs. Much of her practice is utilised in art-activated initiatives working with marginalised and underprivileged communities. Her mosaics are held nationally in public and private collections. The peacock, with all its pomp and beauty, is a repeating motif in Anisa’s work and came about as a way of acknowledging and appreciating the great diversity of wonder and humour in creation. Unlike the other art in this gallery, visitors are encouraged to touch this piece — something Anisa actively encourages to facilitate a tactile experience of the picture and mosaic surface.
