  • Viewing Notes: The Rozenburg Pottery and Porcelian Factory, founded in 1883 in The Hague, was a prolific manufacturer of earthenwares and tiles. Among their distinctive products were vases and dishes with bold abstract patterns designed by Theodorus A. C. Colenbrander. Rozenburg's most famous wares, however, were translucent and almost weightless "eggshell" porcelains with intricately painted decorations based on studies of plants, flowers, insects, and animals. An important factor in Rozenburg's success was the hiring of talented artists to handpaint each piece. Although the factory was short-lived, closing completely in 1917, it played an important role in disseminating the modern art nouveau style in the Netherlands.
