NAKAMURA Gakuryō began his career as a traditional yamato-e* painter, but he did not limit himself to a particular genre. He produced a wide variety of work, introducing elements of Western modernism into his paintings. In this piece, bright pink bridges dramatically intersect in striking contrast with the leaves and deep blue of the Japanese water irises.
