The handle of an umbrella, inscribed with "James Monroe President of the United States 1825." This unbrella was one of a pair presented to James Monroe and the Marquis de Lafayette when they visited the city of Boston. The umbrella weighs eight pounds and is made of whale bone with tan silk and two tones of green borders.
