Theatre performance Une flûte enchantée after Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart by Peter Brook, C.I.C.T. / Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, programmed in Holland Festival 2011.
Staging Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte has been a lifelong ambition for 85 year old director Peter Brook. But don’t expect him to come up with the usual imposing symbolism, lavish sets or symphonic orchestration. Instead, he seeks to give his talented young singers the space to rediscover Mozart’s language down to the finest nuances. To improvise, explore new colours and juggle with forms. Accompanied by virtuoso pianist Franck Krawczyk they deliver a light, effervescent Une flûte enchantée, a poetical interpretation that will, through its intimacy with the audience, reveal the depth and the tenderness of the music.
