Uneven

Of the sixty-two works that Xul Solar presented in his first individual exhibition in Buenos Aires, held in one of the halls of the Asociación Amigos del Arte in 1929, today only less than twenty can be identified with certainty. "Despareja", one of them, presents a couple that is clearly mismatched. If we take a closer look at how the bodies of both figures are composed, we can see that they - besides being constructed from irregular geometrical shapes - have practically the same colors presented in the same order. Xul employs a resource, the organization of horizontal bands of color, which is already known and is typical of several of the works of the period.
