Pierre Daura1939/1955

In this painting, Daura demonstrates his artistic debt to Paul Cézanne. For example, Cézanne modeled three-dimensional form with different colors instead of by adding black for shadows and white for highlights. Daura does the same here and uses multiple perspectives, like his predecessor. One can see both the top and the side of the table in a single image. Cézanne called this approach a “moving eye” and considered it truer to our experience of the world.
