Liu Wenxi was born in Shengxian, Zhejiang in 1933. He was admitted to Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts in 1953. He taught at Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts in 1958. In 1987, he and his wife Chen Guangjian went to Singapore to hold a joint exhibition of their Chinese paintings. He was Vice Chairman of China Artists Association and Dean of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts. He is currently the honorary Dean of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, the dean of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts and the honorary Dean of Shaanxi Academy of Traditional Chinese Painting. He has held exhibitions in Japan, Singapore, Canada, Australia, the United States and Hong Kong. With a large number of moving works and original style, he led a group of powerful painters mainly from Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, and founded the "Loess Painting School" in the Chinese painting circle. The main works include Chairman Mao and the Shepherd, Joy Together, Four Generations of Grandparents, etc. He has published more than 10 works such as Personality and Life and Liu Wenxi's Paintings.
