This work is one of Luis Chan's representative works produced in the most difficult period in his career.
This is also closely related to the change in the environment of Hong Kong in its entirety
during this period, a painful period when Hong Kong was metamorphosed from a colonial city to a global metropolis. By that time, interest in postwar forms of modernism had already begun to grow in Hong Kong, which emphasized experimentation and creativity, including new uses of media. Facing such new challenges, Luis Chan resolutely abandoned artistic practices he had followed for decades. In his art works of the period we can see that he constantly experimented with various modernist styles and methods, such as Cubism, Surrealism, Structuralism, collage, and spray painting, and tried to seek a new
artistic language to fit his art.
