USS Tennessee BB-43 alongside the sunken USS West Virginia. Photograph taken from the overturned hull of the USS Oklahoma; the mainmast of the sunken USS Arizona is visible in the far background. The sinking USS West Virginia wedged USS Tennessee against two massive concrete piers, which were dynamited and cleared away by 16 December. The ship arrived at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard on 29 December 1941 for repair work. USS Tennessee returned to service on 25 February 1942. Later, the ship was returned to Puget Sound for rebuilding, which was completed on 7 May 1943. USS Tennessee earned a Navy Unit Commendation and ten battle stars in World War II.
